Brewery Taproom Manager

Goal of this position

  • The goal of the Taproom Manager is to be responsible for overseeing all daily functions of the brewery taproom while maintaining a positive work environment through inspiring, developing, and providing a team-focused and always innovative vision of excellence

  • The Taproom Manager position directly reports to the President & works in conjunction with the Head Brewer & Marketing Manager

Job Responsibilities

  • Speaks the history, traditions, and education surrounding the company culture, product knowledge, and service standards through providing coaching, training, and education on a daily basis. Is an ambassador for the Historic brand

  • Recruits, interviews, selects, and retains team service oriented individuals

  • Responsible for all facets and management of the Smug Mug Club membership which includes selling memberships, communicating with members on multiple platforms and confirming active users

  • Leads all facets of the brewery tour program from implementing systems, scheduling and communicating with guests to physically giving the tours.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Kegs To Go program

  • Provides a vision for the team and mentors each through development and playing an active role in acquiring new skills to better themselves and the company.

  • Assist in planning of select brewery related in-house events like festivals, beer dinners, collaborations, etc. Work with team on marketing and scheduling events.  

  • Teach and ensure proper pouring practices to eliminate waste/maintain COGs. Safeguards the sale of alcoholic beverages through maintaining staff certifications, providing education and training, and is proactive about recognizing appropriate service of alcohol.

  • Actively encourage staff to have guests to review us online through Yelp, Untappd, Tripadvisor, Google+ and Facebook.

  • Work in conjunction with Marketing Manager to investigate and actively resolve guest issues and respond to outside complaints in a timely and appropriate manner. Listening to voice messages, emails, online reviews

  • Ensures the quality of food and beverages produced meet company and guest standards at all times.

  • Manage food schedule.  Ensure that we have food vendors scheduled for our peak seasons and busiest days.  May-September calendar with food scheduled for Thursday-Saturday. Thursday & Friday 4-8pm and Saturday 12-7pm

  • Ensures that the space is opened and closed according to company standards and guidelines. Keeping bar organized, clean and all items dated properly

  • Leads a safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures complying with health and legal regulations and maintaining security systems when applicable.

  • Assist in leading our in house Beer School Training System by working with the entire company leadership team in scheduling new hire beer training and assisting in Cicerone studying.

  • Interact with customers in a friendly and helpful way. Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations

  • Check customers’ identification and confirm it meets legal drinking age

  • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies

  • Communicate retail needs to Retail Manager

Administrative & Financial Responsibilities

  • Routinely audit checkouts to minimize fraudulent activity and hold staff members accountable for proper checkout procedures.

  • Responsible for financial accuracy of sales records, COG & Labor budgets, and beer & retail inventories through inputting, reviewing and analyzing all sheets and metrics.

  • Secure company cash. Make sure CC’s get batched daily. Maintain accurate records and cash handling procedures for all deposits, register banks and change bags. Make sure all registers and change bags have change needed to conduct business

  • Controls purchasing and par levels of products and supplies in a financially responsible manner without compromising quality of service and products

  • Maintain communication with ownership and the leadership team through daily recaps

  • Creates and communicates the scheduling for the taproom according to past sales, trends, budgets, events and is accountable for all staffing needs. This requires clears communication with the BHF GM and Kitchen Manager

  • Bi-Weekly recaps updating on accomplishments, feedback, progress and new ideas. Send to executive and management team

Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervises Taproom Bartenders. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems while maintaining a positive work environment through inspiring, developing, and providing a team-focused and always innovative vision of excellence.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a manufacturing setting and requires mobility inside and outside of the brewery. Movement is spent in manufacturing areas while performing various tasks. The use of a phone, Mac/PC, printer, and Point of Sales system are required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. Movement is spent in high-traffic areas while performing various tasks. The position is exposed to high energy loud music levels and lowlights for long periods of time (8+ hours)

Physical Demands:
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to walk/stand and sustain physical activity for extended periods of time (8+ hours). Requires at times high and low levels of movement with the ability to reach with arms, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and squat. Requires the lifting of items up to 50 lbs. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Hourly position that requires a flexible schedule, often-working weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Shifts include normally as early as 12pm. and as late as 10:00 p.m.
