Goal of this position

  • The goal of the Beverage Manager is leading, delegating, and managing the daily functions of the assigned beverage stations and bars, while maintaining a positive work environment through inspiring, developing, and providing a team-focused (always innovative) vision of excellence. This position leads the creation of genuine and sincere memorable connections with our guests and is responsible for meeting and exceeding company financial results.

Job Description

  • Manage all the business aspects of the bar such as negotiating with suppliers on pricing, taking inventory on all beverage products, reordering supplies as needed, managing budgets, and setting goals.

  • Manage the 32oz crowler machine keeping supplies in stock, retail coolers full and managing quality control

  • Take weekly  inventory on all beverage products (beer kegs, bottle shop cans, wine, non alcoholics, liquor, and all supplies related to beverage service and place timely orders ensuring we aren't having out of stocks

  • Create a weekly barkeeps choice to promote different styles of beer/wine cocktails

  • Develop and continually update training materials such as bar sop’s,  menu guide and drink recipes

  • Work in conjunction with GM/SM on managing current list of Smug Mug Members and finding creative ways to sign new customers up

  • Attend monthly HBC beer school training to go over new beers and new beer/wine cocktails

  • Keeps all beverage menus up to date and within branding guidelines

  • Schedules quarterly deep cleaning of all bar and beverage areas

  • Diffusing tense situations between patrons or staff members to prevent possible safety or legal issues, ejecting unruly persons, if needed.

  • Drives excellence in service that creates meaningful and genuine connections with guests and translates into positive social feedback commentaries and minimal formal guest complaints

  • Ensures that our service staff is approaching each guest with proper steps of service

  • Speaks the product knowledge and service standards through providing coaching, training, and education on a daily basis. Is an ambassador for the Historic brand.

  • Communicates regularly with the bartenders about upcoming releases and release dates

  • Conduct energetic, passionate, and educational pre-shift meetings that prepare team members with the tools to provide excellence in our products and service

  • Leads a safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards, and procedures complying with health and legal regulations and maintaining security systems when applicable

  • Investigates and actively resolve guest issues and responds to outside complaints in a timely and appropriate manner

  • Actively encourage staff to have guests to review us online through Yelp, Tripadvisor, Google+, and Facebook

  • Ensures proper professional conduct and uniform appearance of all team members

  • Provides a positive work environment free of harassment or discrimination

  • Leads the cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities structure and equipment

  • Ensures appropriate levels of lighting, music, and comfortable temperatures for our guests in our bars

  • Provides a vision for the team and mentors each through development and playing an active role in acquiring new skills

  • Demonstrates a confident command of knowledge regarding products and services and ensures staff knows, demonstrates, and communicates products and service to our guests confidently

  • Follows company policies and standards and holds staff accountable to do the same

  • Ensures the quality of beverages produced meet company and guest standards at all times

  • Secures company cash and maintains accurate recording and cash handling procedures

  • Actively involved in the budgeting, planning, reviewing, and analyzing of the stores financial obligations

  • Supports marketing initiatives positively and actively and meets expected results

  • Controls purchasing and par levels of products and supplies in a financially responsible manner without compromising quality of service and products

  • Ensures training for new team members in a timely and accurate manner

  • Provides constant professional feedback to all team members to meet company service and job expectations

  • Safeguards the sale of alcoholic beverages through maintaining staff certifications, providing education and training, and is proactive about recognizing appropriate service of alcohol

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Guest Experience: Ensuring all of our customers have the best possible experience in our bars and is in line with our brand

  • Managing Staff: Make sure opening up and closing procedures are being followed by yourself and staff at all times

  • Manage Supplies: All beverages and supplies. Products for bar goods and chemical/cleaning. Communication on low inventory of glassware and growlers

  • Physical Space: Oversee the opening and closing of all bars

  • Communication with Staff: on upcoming events and new beer tappings

  • Brand Marketing and Profitability: Assisting, planning and execution of events at Historic Barrel & Bottle House - Flagstaff

  • Communication: Maintaining communication with leadership through weekly recaps

Managing Guest Experience:

  • Ensuring the highest standard of beverage and dining service for guest

  • Ensuring all staff is most knowledgeable on craft beer, wine and cocktails

Managing Staff Product Usage:  

  • Proper pouring practices to eliminate waste/maintain COGs

  • Proper storage and service of beverage goods

  • Ensuring Staff knows prices of all goods to better promote and push product.

  • Perform line cleaning services biweekly for faucets and monthly for beer lines.

Staff Management:

  • Continued Education on new and current products

  • Coaching and developing staff in areas of apparent opportunities for growth.

  • Be open to personal coaching and growth plans set by Kennelly Concepts Executive team. 



Brand Marketing and Profitability:

    • Development of strategies to increase sales on retail, flights, bottle shop sales etc.

    • Assist in event planning/coordination

      • Includes involvement in communication with Marketing Manager

Work Environment:

This job operates in an open-office setting and requires mobility inside and outside the pub. Movement is spent in high-traffic areas while performing various tasks. This position will come in contact and use heavy to light machinery used to prepare food and beverages. The use of a phone, computer, printer, and Point of Sales system are required. The position is exposed to high-energy loud music levels and lowlights for long periods of time (10+ hours)

Physical Demands:

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to walk/stand and sustain physical activity for extended periods of time (10+ hours). Requires at times high and low levels of movement with the ability to reach with arms, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and squat. Requires the lifting of items up to 50 lbs. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position that requires a flexible schedule, often-working workdays, weekends, and holidays. Shifts include normally as early as 9 a.m. and as late as 12 a.m. and can fluctuate

Experience and Education:

  • Level 1 Certified Beer Server and Certified Cicerone

  • Arizona Title 4 Liquor Training Basic and Managers
